Animating My Design Story

The path that my career has taken isn’t your typical graduated high school, went to college, and started career type of story, which can sometimes be confusing at first glance.

I started my career in 2010 as a self-taught designer who was given a chance by a local non-profit. I spent the first six years as a freelancer taking on any design project that came my way. If I didn’t know how to do something, Google and eBooks were there to guide me through the steps. In 2016, I finally committed to pursuing a formal education so I could learn even more about the many facets of design. Four years later, I graduated with an expanded skill set and knowledge base. Between 2010 through today, I’ve been fortunate to experience roles in agency, in-house, and freelance environments. I’ve immersed myself in the full design spectrum, from print design and illustrations to web design and animations.

In an effort to tell my story in a summarized and engaging way, I created a 2D animation that walks you through my design career from 2010 to 2020.

When I created this animation, I was finishing my last year of college through Arizona State University. This was initially one of my senior projects, but I quickly realized that this could be helpful for prospective employers and clients, so they could know a little bit more about my background.

Although this was originally created for educational and professional purposes, this motion graphic has personally been so nostalgic and valuable to me. Design can be highly detailed, so much so that us designers get laser-focused on each precise pixel, so having this broad big-picture view of my story is something I’ll always cherish.
